Chile is the world’s #1 producer of copper, with 5.75 million tons produced in 2015, accounting for 30% of the global market share. In addition to copper, Chile is also a major supplier of molybdenum, gold, and silver. Chile is also a relevant supplier of non-metallic minerals such as iodine, lithium, sodium and potassium nitrate. The mining sector in Chile accounted for approximately 12% of GDP in 2014, and represented 55% of Chile’s total exports.
